The Hoxton and Shoreditch area became popular in the early 90s and has grown in demand ever since. As with so many areas, the artisits led the way and everyone else followed. Over this period the area has changed from one of light industry to one with a vibrant club, restaurant and media business scene.
Hoxton Square is probably the epicentre of the area and within that the insitution with symbolises its recent history more than any other is the White Cube. This art gallery was established by the uber agent, Jay Jopling, in 2000 and has shown and represented many of the Young British Artists (YBAs) including Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst.
